Putoshan and GwanYin


Putoshan is the island where GwanYin is said to live. A Japanese man who twice tried to take one of her statues from this island was shipwrecked both times, creating the legend that the island belonged to GwanYin. There are many temples on this small, lush tropical island which is about 14 by 3 miles long.

An eight year old boy on Putoshan was weeping vociferously. His father said to us when we went over to him to ask why the boy was crying, "I don't know what to do. He says he has been bit by a bee." Bill said, "Why not ask GwanYin to help?" GwanYin is said to hear all suffering and respond to all who ask.
