Welcome to my Travel Blog!

For his graduation present from High School, I took my eighteen year old nephew Nathaniel Wolkstein to China. It was a joy to travel with him. He loved the art, the land, the deserts, the mountains, the spirit of the people. He made a special connection with Yin Le, the abbot of White Horse Temple. He really enjoyed meeting the nuns Cheng Po and the ones who live at Cold Mountain. He loved all the dogs along the way.

China is diverse and profound, sometimes frustrating but mostly for us it was full of wonder; the wonder of a deep past that continues to run like an underground spring, nourishing the sleeping soul. We saw glimpses of its beauty in the qin playing of Mr. Li, in the deserts, the flaming mountains, the charm of the Dunhuang women, the art in the museums, the clouds on Yellow Mountain, the unexpected kindnesses and humor of many people.

I loved the many places and people we visited. I equally loved traveling with Nathaniel and our guide Bill Porter, aka Red Pine. It was specially moving to visit with the monastic women and men whose eyes shone with light.

We took many photos and hope you enjoy this small sampling. We'd enjoy your comments.

  2. diane, your journey is full of spirits past and present, luminous, your smiles like gwan ying's ever present, so much has been glimpsed and yet...there's light still in the darkness. i have gone to china ever since i gone back in 95 and now each year i go deeper into the mountains and laugh with the elders and those who embrace the child. since i last received your out of print white wave, you have been dear to me, and many others as well. may your sacred journey continue in splendid lights. li mo, author of spirit bridges, and storyteller: www.liminmo.com

  3. Hello Diane!

Ive found you travelling with Shan Li. Myself want to go to China or some other country to practise the art of medtitation and living positive. How did you contact ShanLi? It would be a pleasure to here from you, because I want to change my life, but I don't have any idea how to do it. Perhaps you can give me an adress or something to write to ShanLi (I'm from Germany, too) and to ask him things that are bothering my heart.
Please! Have mercy with me and write me a mail: thedawepua@googlemail.com

    Love, light and namasté!
